All Media Downloader Troubleshooting — Fix Common iPhone Errors

Fix "location does not exist", "key does not exist", failed downloads, Share sheet issues, and YouTube quality problems on iPhone. Step-by-step All Media Downloader troubleshooting.

Most All Media Downloader problems on iPhone fall into a few categories: subscription/key issues, an outdated shortcut, or content that cannot be downloaded. Work through this list before contacting support.

"Location does not exist" or path error

Cause: iCloud Drive is disabled, or the shortcut cannot reach the folder where it stores your key (key.txt).

Fix:

  1. Enable iCloud Drive (recommended): Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → turn iCloud Drive on. Confirm Shortcuts is allowed to sync to iCloud Drive.
  2. Run AMD again, or tap Save in All Media Downloader from your Dashboard.
  3. If you do not want iCloud Drive: edit the shortcut to save key.txt on On My iPhone instead, then save your key again.

"Key does not exist" or "AMD key is missing"

Cause: No key file at the configured path, the key was deleted or never created, or the shortcut cannot read the file.

Fix:

  1. Open the Files app and check iCloud Drive → Shortcuts → All Media Downloader → key.txt. (If you customized the shortcut, check your custom path instead.)
  2. If key.txt is missing: sign in at allmediadownloader.com, open your Dashboard, tap Create key, then tap Save in All Media Downloader on your iPhone.
  3. If key.txt exists: the shortcut may lack file permission. Open ShortcutsAll Media Downloader → tap Privacy → turn Allow Access to Files on. Run AMD again.
  4. Confirm Pro is active on your dashboard. If you rotated or revoked a key, create a new one — old keys stop working immediately.

Keys live at iCloud Drive → Shortcuts → All Media Downloader → key.txt by default. Reinstalling the shortcut without re-saving your key will bring this error back.

Key not accepted

Cause: Expired subscription, revoked key, or a stale key.txt after rotating your key on the dashboard.

Fix:

  1. Confirm Pro is active on your dashboard.
  2. Tap Create key (or rotate your existing key). Copy the new value if needed.
  3. Tap Save in All Media Downloader on your iPhone to overwrite key.txt.
  4. Try a download again from the Share sheet.

"File doesn't exist" or shortcut won't run

Cause: Broken shortcut install, outdated version, or a path error (often iCloud Drive off).

Fix:

  1. Confirm iCloud Drive is on, or customize the key path if you keep it off.
  2. Delete the shortcut from the Shortcuts app.
  3. Download the latest version from iCloud.
  4. Save a fresh key from your dashboard (Save in All Media Downloader).
  5. Retry the download.

Always install updates from iCloud rather than duplicating an old copy.

Download fails or times out

Cause: Network issues, private content, platform changes, or an outdated shortcut version.

Fix:

  1. Update the shortcut — AMD checks automatically; install the latest from iCloud if prompted.
  2. Check your connection — switch to Wi‑Fi for large files.
  3. Confirm the content is public — private accounts, followers-only posts, and age-gated content often fail.
  4. Verify Pro status and key on your dashboard.
  5. Try again — platforms occasionally rate-limit; waiting a minute helps.

If one platform fails but others work, the issue is likely on that platform's side. Include the platform name when you email support.

Shortcut not showing in the Share sheet

Cause: AMD is not enabled in your share-sheet favorites.

Fix:

  1. Tap Share on any post.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit Actions (or More on older iOS).
  3. Find All Media Downloader and tap the green + to add it to Favorites.
  4. Drag it to the top of the list if you use it often.

Downloads save to the wrong place

AMD sends files to two locations depending on type:

  • Photos and videos → Photos library
  • Audio and other files → Files → On My iPhone → AMD DOWNLOADS

You can rename the Files folder in the shortcut's settings. See how to customize All Media Downloader. Photos always go to the library — that is an iOS limitation, not an AMD bug. See where downloads are saved.

YouTube quality looks low

The shortcut can download YouTube video up to 1080p H.264 when that resolution is available in a format iOS can play and save to Photos. You do not pick a resolution in the shortcut — AMD chooses the best iOS-compatible stream for the link.

Why YouTube may show 4K but AMD does not: Many uploads offer 2160p only as AV1 or VP9. Those codecs play in the YouTube app but are not reliably compatible with the Photos library on most iPhones and iPads. AMD skips them and uses H.264 in MP4 instead, which works everywhere on iOS. When YouTube has no 4K H.264 ladder for that video, the download may top out at 1080p even though the YouTube quality menu lists 2160p. That is expected, not a phone setting you missed.

If a download still looks soft or small:

  1. Update the shortcut — older builds capped YouTube at lower resolutions. Install the latest from iCloud when AMD prompts you.
  2. Check the source video — not every upload has 4K in an iOS-friendly format. A 2160p label in the YouTube app does not guarantee AMD can save that same stream to Photos.
  3. Use Wi‑Fi — large files can fail or time out on weak cellular; retry on a stable connection.

Audio-only downloads from YouTube are separate from video quality. See YouTube download guide.

Shortcut says an update is required

AMD enforces minimum shortcut versions for compatibility with the download server. If you see an update prompt:

  1. Open the latest shortcut on iCloud.
  2. Install the latest version (replace the old shortcut).
  3. Re-save your AMD key from the Dashboard (Save in All Media Downloader) if asked.

Running an outdated shortcut against a new server can cause silent failures — always update when prompted.
